Robert Pierce Ingle 1933 - 2011

Mr. Ingle was a member of American Legion Post 70 in Asheville, NC, the city in which he was born.  By age six, Robert was working in his father's grocery store.  After graduating from Lee Edwards High School in 1952, he volunteered to to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and achieved the rank of Sergeant.  He opened the first Ingle's store in 1963.  Today there are over 200 Ingle's Supermarkets employing thousands.  Robert always put a premium on fairness and honesty.  He was known for helping those in need and contributed to many charities.
